5 Things I Wish I Knew When I Started Blogging

5 Things I Wish I Knew When I Started Blogging

Hello! Today I’m sharing five things I wish I knew when I first started blogging. Trust me, as someone who at times may be considered an introvert. These last almost six years haven’t been easy. I’m always asked what I wish I knew, so I’m sharing the deets today.

Social Media

Social media is clutch whether you like it or not. Find out which social media outlet your tribe is in while doing research. The least favorite social media site brings the most traffic to my site. Of course, I still indulge in other social media sites as well. However, I know where to pay attention to as well. The worst thing you can possibly do is not share your content with your social media followers. Let them know what you do and who you do it for. Most importantly let them know how to find you. I was a late bloomer when it came to social media. I wasn’t on Facebook or twitter until I started my blog. I learned really fast the power of social and how to turn my hubby into some serious coins.

This came be tricky. I started blogging almost six years ago. It wasn’t about competition. It’s wasn’t about numbers. It’s wasn’t about the next big thing. Don’t take it personally when your blogger crush could care less about you, genuinely try to build a blogger relationship with other bloggers who you have something in common in. Keep it moving If they brush you off. So many other bloggers are looking for blogger buddies. Take the time to join Facebook groups for bloggers. Make sure you search the feed prior to asking the same ole question. Genuinely try to connect with people.

I am still getting better at this. My pictures were awful and I didn’t care. People were still visiting my site, the numbers were there and I thought I was on the topic of the world. I was contacted daily about sponsored posts and I had no idea what they were. I didn’t go above and beyond. Things have changed a lot though. They are so many wonderful resources. So many photography classes and most importantly so many stock images. For my blog, I prefer to use my own personal images and for my business site, I use stock images. If you’re not good at something to pay someone or learn how to do it. My images have improved greatly and I’m still learning.

Buy Your Domain

Big mistake. I didn’t purchase my domain name for Our Delightful Home. This was a huge mistake on my part. I didn’t own my domain name when switching from Our Delightful Home to Simply Tasheena.com. Most of my links lead to a dead end because I did my own the site. I wish I would have purchased the domain name and went with WordPress. The plugins that WordPress has been awesome and it just allows Tasheenawomack.com to run seamlessly. Long story short. Buy your domain name for your business.

Times Change

Always be willing to learn and improve on your craft. What people were doing five years ago when I started. People are no longer doing. Don’t think you know too much. Never stop learning. Try to learn something new every day. Trust me, you can be at the top one day and another blog will be the “it” blog the next morning. Stay on your toes!!!

I hope this information is helpful. I’ve come a long way and I’m still working towards my goals. I have so many sweet Bloggers that I’ve met and have been such a big help to me. I ways tell people that if they want to start a blog, but are scared. Create the content and make your site private. Your website will never be perfect so don’t be so hard on yourself.

Tasheena showed up to my workshop and breezed through like a breath of fresh air! Wow she put the cherry on top of an already awesome morning.

She kept our attention every minute she was there and left us with knowledge and motivation. We were in GO mode when she left. Exciting, informative, awesome!
I would have her back again and again. Peace and Blessings.
